INDIGO COTTON RIPSTOP “KOKIRAN” MILITARY SHIRT (SJAS24-AR)
This original "kokiran" military shirt is made of a high-gauge cotton ripstop fabric using yarns dyed with synthetic and natural indigo. "Kokiran" is a very deep blue and is a color loved by the common people since the Heian period (794 - 1180). At that time, the color was actually a combination of indigo and yellow known as "kihada", and Samurai reproduced this color here through a special process that utilizes modern dyes.
The base fabric is an original ripstop dyed with a mixture of indigo dyes at the thread state. Compared to normal ripstop fabrics, this one is thicker, stiffer, and has a more uneven texture and greater durability, which means it can be worn for many years. On top of that, they took it a step further and reproduced the exact sewing specifications from the old days when there were no efficient 2-needle machines that could do rolled stitches. Of course, it takes more time and effort to make things this way, but the unique puckering that results is one of the distinctive features of this item.
